Christmas Tablescape with Italian Countryside! Welcome to the 120th Tablescape Thursday!

Our Deck the Halls party was so much fun! With 485 holiday links to view, there was no lack for inspiration! Thanks to everyone who linked up a post showing their holiday decorating!

Tonight I am sharing another Christmas tablescape. I played around with two centerpieces, one with a Baldwin Brass Lantern and Candlesticks and another with fresh Rosemary topiaries and the BB lantern. Both centerpieces have Russian Nesting Dolls that I've collected over the years. Let me know which centerpiece you liked best...I couldn't decide. :)

Topiaries are fresh rosemary...and I loved the way their fragrance filled the dining room.

Without the topiaries...

Dinnerware is Italian Countryside, paired with their holiday collection...beautiful!

Mikasa Holiday plates:

French Countryside Ruby Goblets are from Mikasa. They have a subtle swirl design...sooo pretty! The wine glasses are Spode, Christmas Tree.

Flatware is Towle, pattern is King Richard.

I like using the gold and silver jingle bell napkin rings when I have gold and silver accents/colors in a table setting. It helps tie the two together.

Without topiaries...just using a Baldwin Brass Lantern and Candlesticks. The candles are from Colonial Candle.

I love the little nesting dolls. The history of nesting dolls goes back to Russia where they were called Matryoshka dolls, babushka dolls or Russian nesting dolls. Five dolls nest into the large one on the far left in this photo.

You can see the smallest of this set of six (6) on the right side of this pic. The brass lantern is Baldwin Brass and was collected 15+ year ago.

A few more...these are nesting Santas. It's so much fun to open them to see how many are inside.

I bought these strings of gold and red beads years ago for a project, but never got around to making it. Now I have no clue what I planned to use them for...do you ever do that? Please say, YES. LOL They have been stuffed away in a box for years. I pulled them all out today and put them inside this crystal beverage dispenser to enjoy until I fill it with this Champagne Punch.

Looking forward to viewing your beautiful tablescapes! Julia at Hooked on Houses is having a Holiday Party today. Stop by Hooked on Houses and check out all the great links or join the party!

We are moving into a new home in about 9 days (yes, BEFORE Christmas). I've always wanted to paint my dining room a red color like yours but I'm really nervous! Yours is soooo beautiful and inspiring, is it still ok to paint the dining room red? What color/brand did you use!! Merry Christmas everybody!!

Beautiful table. There is no doubt in my mind, you've got to go with the topiaries. Not only are they a treat for your eyes, but your nose as well!

Hi iSavortheweekend, The color I used when I painted my dining room is Benjamin Moore, Raspberry Truffle. I love it. I love having one room in my home with red walls. If it was the dining room, I'd use red in a library or study.
As to if it's ok to paint the dining room red, I never follow trends...I just do what I love. Trends come and go...so go with what you love. And remember, it's just paint...easy to change when the mood strikes.

I'm probably the only person on earth who doesn't care for the scent or flavor of rosemary. Thus my vote is nix the topiaries! However, I do think the lantern table needs a touch of green. Not much help, I guess.

Susan, Your dining room table setting is just stunning. My dining room is red as well with a crystal chandelier. I love the way the color bounces off the prisms of the chandelier in the evening. My DD also has the King Richard silver pattern and she has loved that pattern since she was a little girl. Much of her silver that I bought for her came from Beverly Bremmer in Atlanta. If you have never visited that shop in Buckhead you should.

Sending a sweet hello from Frog Hollow Farm! Your tablescapes are always just wonderful to scroll through! I love the addition of the rosemary topiaries, and wonder if anyone has suggested including the hurricane and the two topiaries - if you can fit them all? The Mikasa pieces are delightful - I love amaryllis flowers - they are as elegant as lilies in my book. I've used red, gold and pearl beading strands under wide pillars in glass hurricanes - they are really pretty with the candle lit and reflect even more light than the glass hurricane piece. Ciao, bella!

Susan, your dining room is beautiful for the holidays! I am definitely checking out the Red French Countryside stemware and seeing if there is any Christmas items to go with FC as that is my white dishware.

In case you get the chance to answer (and I will also email), what are the dimensions of your dining room? By your pictures it looks similar to mine, just different placement of doors and windows.

Thanks in advance!

Your table is perfect! I vote for no topiaries, though....the height didn't seem to work as well as the shorter items. And as for the buying things for projects, and then not doing them...oh yes! But there is so much fun in rediscovering the bits and using them in other ways, that I never really mind.

Thank you for the lovely inspiration!

What are napkin sheaths? I don't think I've ever seen them before. What do you do with them when you put the napkin on your lap?

At Sunday, June 19, 2011 , Blogger Susan (Between Naps On The Porch.net) said...

Hi Pamela,
They are just a decorative (usually sheer) fabric that goes over the napkin to add a touch of elegance to the table. You just place the sheath to the side and place the napkin in your lap. The sheath is just really meant to be decorative. You mostly see them on holiday tables or table for special occasions.
