Fantasy Homes...

Remember that old HGTV show, Extreme Homes? Is it still on? I have a home to show you that should be (or should have been) on that show. This house is about 15-20 minutes from my town, in a smaller town/city nearby. It's on a busy, main road, and one day, (15+ years ago) as we were passing by, we pulled over and took this pic. Of course, I didn't know one day I'd be sharing it with you guys on a thing called a blog!

An aside: About a week ago, I finally got around to calling HP to get some help with my HP "All in One" printer/scanner/fax that I purchased months ago. I couldn't get the "scan" function to talk to my computer...or vice-versa. I just sat back and watched while they literally commandeered my computer (which is also an HP) and figured it all out. It took them (the experts) about half an hour, which means I would have NEVER figured it out. Thank-you, HP.

Now that I have my scanner working, I'm going to have so much fun sharing some old pics with you from time to time! Of course, I'll still be taking plenty of new pics...just no more having to take a picture of a picture, when I want to share an old pic with you. I'll just scan that baby in and share away! Yay, technology!  Sorry, I get carried away...it's the little things that make me happy! Ok, the big things do, too.

Ok, back to the picture...this is a real house! I so wish I could remember exactly what road it was on. Then, I could drive back by to see if it's still there all these years later.

Here's the same pic, again...but this time it hasn't been enlarged, just in case the resolution on your computer doesn't support the bigger pics. Do you see the building off to the right? What do you suppose that is...the garage? I think it's too short to be a garage. Maybe it's a wall around a pool? Or, maybe it's a playhouse for the children.

You can tell how old this pic is...because of the age of the car that's parked on the right side, behind the house. Wouldn't you love to see the inside of this home?!

I have a good many local readers...maybe someone will leave a comment saying if this house is still standing and if it's still a residence today. Please, no names, though...for privacy reasons.

Additional Info: A reader found some additional information about the castle house. You can read it by clicking HERE. Thanks to everyone who left comments and sent info about where the home is located. Some readers mentioned that home now has a moat and gnomes outside. :-)

Isn't it wonderful that all our homes don't look exactly the same...what a boring world that would be! I love that whoever owns this place, had the enthusiasm to build the home of their dreams. It's a bit of fantasy and joy in a world that is all too "real" and negative at times.

Do you have an "extreme" home in your neck of the woods? If you could build a fantasy home, what would it look like? Mine would definitely look like those storybook cottages you see in fairy tales. Hey, HGTV! Do a show about Storybook Homes and I'll host it! Think they are listening?

If you'd like your own storybook cottage...check out the homes at Storybook Homes by clicking HERE. Have fun! :-)

They sell hardware for storybook homes, too. As I was browsing, I fell in love with these.

Oh, don't forget to check out all the fabulous tablescapes posted for Tablescape Thursday! Wow, you guys amaze me with your creativity and talent!  Have a great weekend! See you on Monday for Met Monday!

Susan I have seen this place and thought the same thing...extreme homes. It is worse now, has gnomes on the gate posts, a moat. Pretty sure it's the same place. Don't know the road but it's a hard place to miss.

Wow, not in a good way wow! We have a house that looks like a castle where I live. Can we say a little pretentious? I guess we all feel like a queen now and again, but I just wouldn't want to live in a castle!

What a fantastic place, Susan! I'm glad HP got your scanner working and allowed you to share it with us. I'd love a tour! I have a feeling it would be well worth driving a few hours to see what's inside! There's what appears to be ruins of a castle in Middle TN. A relatively new highway passes near it. I asked someone who lives nearby about it. It seems that the home was begun, but never finished. It looks beautiful in the distance, but has an air of sadness and longing.

Hope your weekend goes well.

Warmest regards,
Bill

It looks like a modern day Cinderella castle. It would be a fun house to live in as a little girl!

Amazing home, Susan. I watched that show. It was interesting to see all the different homes.

I think the one on the right is the dog house! ha!

Cheers!

Hey Susan,
That is amazing!! I think it's a playhouse, the little castle for the wee ones! Oh, but do they actually have blue carpet to drive on? I love storybook cottages, in fact I just love cottages, period!
Have a great week-end,
Cindy

Susan, that house seems like a bad execution of someone's dream home. I am going to post photos of our house which is a 1930's French Normandy estate in the next few weeks. It is truly a fairytale house complete with turret. It was built by the engineer of the Empire State builiding. Stay tuned. Here is the link http://colorandlightatelier.blogspot.com/

Hi Susan, Wow thats a house/castle alright! I don't think I can top that here where I live in VA. We do have some pretty storybook houses around, maybe I'll get out and take a few pictures for you!

Does your Garden Club do a Spring Garden Tour?

Thank you for the fun post!

how funny! It looks like someone lopped off the top of a castle and plopped it down in GA.

That's exactly how I feel! I may not want to live there, but I love seeing fantasies made real. I would love to see the interior! Thanks for sharing!

Holy smokes. Now whoever had that built, I'd like to meet. Or, maybe not. But when I saw it all I could think was how much my girls would have LOVED that place when they were in the Princess-Dress-Up stage of their lives. All that's missing are the pumpkin coach and mice that sew.

That is definitely a unique home, but I can't say it looks "homey" to me, chickee. I prefer the classic sense of a home, not having everyone think I live in a castle. Actually, my home is my castle and celestial place on this earth to get away from all the hustle and bustle and just "live" like I want to live. Glad you got your HP figured out, sugar. HP and Apple have the absolute best customer service on this planet! They love their customers and will do ANYTHING to help them.

Happy weekend!

Glad you got your scanner fixed. I once had a virus in my PC and watched as the anti-virus folks took over my computer and fixed it good as new. It's just amazing, and it didn't cost me a thing. They offered the same thing the last time I had a virus, but unfortunately the virus had locked me out of internet access.

That house is amazing. Hard to find homes like that with all of the subdivision covenants and architectural rules.

Cool castle, I mean house! That's probably the maid's quarters, or in-law suite behind it. Or if the kids were REALLY lucky, a playcastle.

Susan, I haven't seen that one but about 20 years ago on a country road near Alpharetta a stone castle with a turret was going up and I stopped to talk to the construction folks. The husband was there and said his wife wanted a castle so he was building one for her.

I have a friend in Henry county who built there house underground. From the front, it looks like a traditional house but it is far from it. Strange enough, once inside it is a terrific house with lots of light. The front of the house gets plenty of natural light but lighting plays a huge role in the rest of the house as you can imagine.

Hi Susan! I used to live in Alpharetta, Ga.
The article the AJC did years ago, focused simply on the fact that the guy who built it wanted to be "King of His Castle."

I don't think there was any other story behinh it!

The last time I passed by it, it had fallen into slight disrepair.
Looking quite shabby. (not chic!)

Does Cinderella live there? I think you are right that it might be a fence around a pool, or maybe a child's playhouse? My fantasy house would be a Cotswold Cottage, complete with a thatched roof!

Having grown up down the road from this house, I have been intrigued by it most of my life. It is the craziest form of a castle I have ever seen and took many year to get to where it is. Now it has painted gnomes hanging out all around it and they are scarey. Sure glad I got mor Bang for my Buck.

The castle is at Cagle Rd and Hwy 140 in Roswell -- it's still there and looks practically the same... but I think there are gnomes around some of the posts now.

Cute blog!

I have been to that house. It is on Cagle Rd (which is also my last name) in or close to Roswell, Georgia. I brought my mother to see it when she was in town because I joked with her that "a man's home is his castle on Cagle Road". We were standing at the gate and the owner came out to speak to us. He was proud of his house and was pleased we were interested. He let us on the property and showed us around the outside of the house. We did not go inside. There is a mote about a couple of feet wide all around the house's exterior wall. A draw bridge type door on the right side opened to the garage in the house itself. I recall he mentioned the smaller structure had something to do with a pool, and his grandkids liked to come over to play in the pool. I believe he was retired from the construction business. This was about 15 to 20 years ago, so I am not totally remembering the family name butit was Mc-something... He was very nice to us and still have the pictures from the visit. He mentioned the town had approached him about registering it a local tourist site of some kind.
