Over the years, I've collected a good many vintage Christmas ornaments. I had orginally planned to have a "vintage" tree, but this year I decided to group a few of them together in a footed glass container here in the family room.

Instead of the expected tassel...I hung a little berry wreath from the key. :-)

At Thursday, November 20, 2008 , RetiredAtLast said...: I have two boxes of ornaments purchased in the mid sixties still stored from year to year in their original boxes. A few have been broken over the years but most remain intact. Years ago I was told to store with a piece of waxed paper (for me that was Cut-Rite)lying on top of the ornaments, to help keep them bright and shiny. Don't know if the waxed paper worked, but they still look the same to me as when I bought them for my first tree, after I married in 1965. The price is still on the boxes. The plain solid colored ornaments were $ .79, and the ones decorated with something akin to crystallized glitter were $1.29. They came in boxes of 12. You have given me a marvelous idea of a way to use them, without anymore getting broken. Thanks.

Yes, your ornaments! I have about 30 ornaments I inherited from my mom. They are amazing glass ornaments. I have a large footed crystal bowl I put them in, nestled into some faux snow. I have a large collection of vinatge ornaments that I do cover a tree w/ but I also have bowls of them all over my house. I'm thinking about really downsizing my other Christmas chotchkes this year & just adding bowls of ornaments to everday vignettes; instead of having Christmas completely take over my house. It would be soo much less work & would probably look better too!

I decorate what I call a Grandma, Grandpa tree. I do it like I remember as a child. Tinsel and even the tacky aluminum star with lights. I put the cotton batting with the glitter and the little house out of cardboard and glitter underneath. I use to lay on my tummy and imagine people living in the houses. My grandpa would say don't touch the lights they will burn you, remember the bubble lights, yes I even put those on. OH sweet memories. Thankyou for taking me down memory lane. Kathysue

Christmas decorating already!!!!!
Though I haven't even really thought too much about it; I have begun my Christmas Shopping.

Yesterday while 'on the hunt' I immediately thought of you and your wonderful tablescapes. Don't know if you've ever seen it done, but for example: those white candle stick holders in your previous posting could be decoratively topped off with a large Xmas Ball ornament inverted upside down. The effect is really quite unique plus festive since the the candle holders make great pedestals.
