So, How About Now?

Recently, I asked your advice in choosing which size file organizer to use here in the office.  Thanks so much to everyone who voted in the poll running on that previous post.

Pottery Barn Bedford Office Renovation

You may remember from that post, a day or two after buying this 2-file organizer below, I stopped by another Marshalls...

...and found the same organizer in a taller version.  With three slots, this one offered even more storage space.  I really liked the idea of having a bit more extra storage, but I couldn't decide which one looked best in this spot here on the desk.

Here was the side-by-side comparison I shared last week of the short organizer vs the taller organizer.

Pottery Barn Bedford Home Office Addition

With almost a 1,000 votes, the taller one won in a landslide.

In the comments on that poll, several folks pointed out how the shorter of the two units looked a little awkward since it was so close to the same height as the lamp.   I completely agreed and decided to go with the taller organizer.  But a suggestion many of you made in your comments on the poll kept nagging at me.

Several folks suggested using the smaller organizer with a picture on the wall above.  Duh...I hadn't thought of that.  Over the past week, the taller organizer has felt a bit, well....tall.  No other way to put it.   And there seemed to be a lot of "sameness" going on with the wood wrapping paper organizer on the left and the wood framed bulletin board on the right.

So, I dug through a closet and found a picture, hung it on the wall and placed the shorter organizer back on the desk.  So what do you think now?  The gold frame on the picture will look a bit better on Monday.  Can't say why just yet...it's a secret. ;)

Here's a side-by-side comparison.  So which one looks best now?  The shorter organizer with a picture hanging above.  Or, the taller, 3 slot organizer?

Please vote below and help me decide.  If you voted for the taller organizer before and now you like the shorter one, leave a comment telling me why.   Or, if you still prefer the taller one, I'd love to hear your thoughts.   I don't want to say which direction I'm leaning...don't want to influence your vote.  Can't wait to see which you choose!

Which do you think looks best?
Shorter, 2 file organizer with picture hanging above
Taller, 3 file organizer

Pssst: There's been another BIG change in the office I can't wait to share. I'm saving it for Metamorphosis Monday. If you look closely in one of the pictures above, you'll get a hint on the right side of one of the pics. I'm really excited about it...hurry up Monday! ;)

Well, you give me too many choices and I can't decide! I love the taller holder but I do like your little one with the picture on top.
Oh, I see it! Does it have anything to do with new drapes? :)
Have a great weekend.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

I like the shorter one with or w/o the picture. Although i'd keep the taller one too. And i'm thinking I spotted the change.
NWT's? :) From with I can see, I really like.

Love your blog.

I am going to be the odd one here - Hang the picture above the 3 tier.

Susan, hate to add to the dilemma but is there any way that the feet of the organizer be removed and the unit be hung on the wall? That way it would give you extra desk space and still be functional. Just a thought. -Brenda-

Now, that's not fair.....making me choose again!!! I am liking the shorter one now with the picture, it adds a bit of softness and a round frame would be even better.....and you little sneaky thing you....I spy curtains in plaid, my favorite color!!!

I still stay with my pick of the shorter one, but am not sure about the picture. Do I spot something on your windows Susan? :)

I like the shorter one but the ocd side of me would want the picture width a tad smaller more in keeping with the widthe of the shelf. The lamp no longer feels like it is competing with the shelf to be noticed because the picture stills the show and pulls your attention up.

I like the taller one; however, I would hang the picture on the other wall above your monitors to the left of your window.

Definitely like the shorter one with the picture above. Like you said...it adds interest and breaks up all the wood of the wrapping station and bulletin board. That said...your office is so amazing as is...everything looks perfect!! Cant wait to see what more perfection you add.

Hi Susan, Previously I voted for the taller one, after seeing the side by side pictures, I prefer the shorter version with the picture. It helps break up the all wood tones and adds a bit of excitement. mmmmm I think I see some draperies in your future post... love the pattern.
Hope you're having a great w/k. I'm struggling with the blog adding and taking away from it.. when you're a tad bit challenged this is mundane work.. lol hugs ~lynne~

Hi Susan,

What do you think about giving us a detail tour of your office (i.e. Inside drawers & files) to show us how you stay so organized! It's amazing how much you accomplish in a day. Also, where did you get those pretty floral file folders.

Thanks!

Thanks and thanks for that suggestion. I was just thinking the other day it might be a good idea to create a catch-up post showing the office all around. I've actually taken some pics of how I'm using the Expedit that's in the closet...just haven't gotten around to posting those yet. I did one little "drawer" post here a while back in this "behind the scenes" tour: http://bit.ly/etofrv
The file folders came from Office Max. They unfortunately came in a package with some other that were pretty awful looking. I had to buy the whole package just to get the 3 butterfly folders. But they were pretty close to the color I wanted so I bit the bullet and did it. So if you look for them at Office Max, you'll find them in a package with other folders. I think there were 9 in the package...maybe 3 of each style.

Susan,
Again...it depends on your need for organization! I'd go for the two tier if it were me!I'm loving that print you've chosen to place above the organizer!!!
Fondly,
Pat

I think it would be nice with the shorter one but not a picture above instead get a wall pocket of some kind and put silk greens in the pocket on the wall above the short one. There is enough frames going on and greens will warm the look.
