What Caption Would You Put Under This Picture?

Recently, I came across this amazing picture by Eugenio Recuenco, a contemporary photographer from Spain. I was completely enthralled! (Click on pic to enlarge.)

Recuenco is famous worldwide for his works in the publishing and advertising fields. His style has been described as being “cinematographic” and “pictorial.” He has also done work for fashion magazines, Vogue and Madame Figaro. Wouldn't you love to be inside his head for just 5 minutes?

Looking at the picture above, what do you think he is attempting to convey to his audience? If you had to write a caption for the picture, what would it be? I can't wait to read your responses! :-)

I think she's just realized, that though she has survived yet another commute home through Atlanta traffic, not to mention a few goblins and ghouls, she has forgotten to stop by The Jungle Depot to pick up the bulbs for her newly installed chandy...and it's getting dark!

OK...kidding aside...does life sometimes feel like this picture? Our nests or homes are where we let our guard down. We change into our comfy clothes and relax...surrounded by the beauty we create, perhaps even hoping it gives us just a little insulation from the ugliness that sometimes exist just outside our doors. Those woods look pretty daunting, don't they?

Why do you think the chandelier is lacking bulbs? I truly believe that was done intentionally. I have some ideas...but I want to know what you think!

Susan, I think the pic depicts a love "nest", the reason for no lights in the chandy, because he wants it dark... ;) Her attire and the leopard looking pillows again reflect to me that this is a love nest with his love interest. I purposely didn't read everyone elses comment so I wouldn't be swayed. ;) That's my interpretation, ~CC ;)

Have you left your nest sitting in the dark?

There are so many interpretations that can be taken from this picture, but this was my first, so I'll leave it at that. ;) Very interesting picture.

*Well you just knooooow I am a verrrry "deep" person~~~ Yessireebob, I TRY (& often times I wish I WOULDN'T), to find "meaning" to/in "everything", & put it into perspective... Here? Sorry, Sweet Sue, I looked at JUST a few other pics ALSO, and all I came up with (and I'm being quite honest) was "Sad, conflicted, photographer". Period. No big catch phrases here, altho I did study art for a few years in school.... (I DO wonder tho, if he still has BOTH ears)~

The first phrase that came to my mind was "A bird's nest on the ground". The phrase describes some thing or some situation that is rewarding to the owner in a very big way.

Hmmm...about the chandy...looks like she is out in the woods, since there is no electricity in the woods, maybe the chandy has unlit candles?!!

LOVE YOUR BLOG!

Okay, I'm going with she cannot really be herself inside her nest (lack of bulbs or illumination)and is too afraid to venture out into the woods. So she is a kept woman (and not kept too well by her size) afraid of being discovered for who she really is. But honestly, I too like the first answer!

Here's my deep thought for the day - maybe the month!

If you notice, there are no bulbs in the chandy but her nest is well lit in the darkening woods - highlighted, in fact. The rest of the world may be threatening but HOME is our place of comfort and light. No need for artificial illumination! The comfort is in the familiarity of well loved things and the memories which dwell within the nest.

That probably makes no sense, but it really is a beautiful and thought provoking picture anyway!
Great post, Kathy!

Why is it that I think this photo is very seductive? I thought it should be named: Come to Mamma.

I'll get my mind out of the gutter soon!

No bulbs? Maybe because it is not Home but actually a nest of ill repute...

I didn't read the other comments first. I immediately thought it was a "Love Nest" because she has on the skimpy clothing and the come hither look. I think the chandelier has no light bulbs to keep the atmosphere dark.

OK,now I scrolled through the comments. Interesting to see what others thought!

Interesting photographer! Thanks for getting my brain going so early this morning Susan! :D Jewel

My thoughts...
The nest has high sides and is full of big pillows. She looks quite defenseless. I think it portrays that sometimes the world around us is scary, dark, your 'lights' may go out - but perhaps if we build our walls, secure our homes, provide a place of comfort and protections - perhaps we can survive the scary night.

Um...his nest egg is GONE and he has THIS instead? As in this is what he spent his nest egg on? Yep..I think that's it. From looking at her I would say...that could very well be the case. The thought kind of tickles me. :) Does that make me perverse?!

At Thursday, January 29, 2009 , Blogger cedwards55 said...

I wish I could come up with a fabulous caption but I just want to "soften" the hardness of her nest. I think she's learned to be content no matter what her circumstances. Maybe there's a lesson in that for all of us. I don't think the darkness of the forest of the lack of lights in her chandy particularly upsets her. She doesn't look as if her feathers are one bit ruffled, although I think she could do with a protein pac for her hair!

At Thursday, January 29, 2009 , Blogger Unknown said...

To me the woman just looks so soft and vulnerable in the midst of the scratchy, rough little nest. All her little "things" she has collected, are added to soften the harshness of her reality(the creepy forest outside)The chandelier, though imperfect, is one of the many beautiful things she has secured from the scary world around her,to make her existence seem bearable. She has BIG plans for this place.....I just feel it. LOL

The "Empty Nest" takes on a new meaning! She wants to reconnect with him..and feel what is was like when it was just the two of them...the red pillow tells me she is ready for romance..the chandy depicts elegance, wealth and wisdom of a fullfilled life.

Chandelier? Good grief, I forgot about the chandelier. Well..he probably can't afford any bulbs. She needs her manicure and pedicure, a visit to her colorist, her designer, for clothing that is, and..and..she needs some new feathers for the nest. Who can afford bulbs. From the way she looks, he only needs candlelight anyway! :) Ok..did I cover the chandelier?
And..thank you SO much for stopping by. I am all smiles!
