Show and Tell Friday and A Classy Flea Shopping Trip

I've been wanting to participate in Kelli's Show and Tell Friday's (There is No Place Like Home) but I've also been shopping at The Flea and wanted to post a Flea Friday trip...so what to do? (tapping fingers on desk, scratching head) Hey...what about a DOUBLE post! :-)

For Show and Tell Friday, I thought I'd share a very old pic with you. The quality isn't the greatest since it was taken with a Polaroid camera back in 1977. I was a Junior in college and had just soloed this little Cessna 150. My instructor spared me the "tearing of my shirt tail," an old tradition in aviation....but he did insist on taking my pic right after I landed. Don't you just love the bell bottom jeans? Hey, it was the 70's...which also explains the long hair parted down the center. :-)

Here's the certificate he gave me of a little bird being kicked out of the nest. (Sorry about covering my last name but you have to be careful in cyberspace.)
I didn't get my pilot's license...just too much going on with going to school full-time, working part-time and planning my wedding for the following June. But I did get to solo many times in that little plane and it was truly one of the best times in my life! :-)

Don't forget to stop back by There is No Place Like Home to see all the other Show and Tells posted for this Friday.

Ok, ready to go shopping at A Classy Flea? I was having withdrawals recently so I knew it was time...time for a shopping trip to A Classy Flea! I'm always amazed at how much has changed and all the new things they have each time I visit. Let's get going and see what we can find!

Vintage, oval, hand-painted serving bowl: $12.95 Isn't this wonderful...soooo tempting~

Hand-painted bunny: $4 Doesn't he remind you of the Herend bunnies...except they cost about a gazillion more!

Pretty blue tray: $8 I just like this soft blue color...

Italian Vanity Mirror: $59

20 piece, cobalt blue dish set, 4 place settings: $32.99: I could see a tablescape with this china...using my Blue Williow salad plates...or maybe red and white salad plates for the 4th of July :-)

Beautiful antique dresser...$299 Unfortunately, the marble top is broken but I still love it.

I love the old mirror on this piece...

WOW! 2 striped damask chairs for $99 for the pair... I only took a pic of one but you get 2 like this for that price!

3 piece vanity set with matching stool and a ruffled mirror...129

Here's the mirror. You know, this wouldn't be that hard to do with a mirror and some left over fabric...

Cute shamrock china...perfect for St. Patrick's Day: $25 for 3 cups and saucers and a creamer and sugar

I couldn't resist...had to buy these :-)

Beautiful, green crystal stems: $16 each

Adorable children's tea set...sort of regretting I didn't buy this: $22

Needlepoint pillow: $12

Garden stool: $45

Didn't get the prices, but I thought these were pretty...

Vintage, metal, cherub lamp with silk shade: $49

Close-up...so cute!

Pretty black, white and yellow glass or china tray: $9.99

Great chair...I think it was $79

Blue metal lamps: $19 each

Bird cage: $8.99

Hand blown, antique, smoke bell cloche: $34

Hope you enjoyed this Flea Friday! Did you see anything you wouldn't have been able to resist? You can visit A Classy Flea online by clicking HERE.

Little Reminder: Monday is Metamorphosis Monday...looking forward to seeing all your "Before and Afters!" If you aren't familiar with Met Monday, just click on the butterfly posted on my sidebar for all the details!

Enjoyed the trip with you again today! ;) ~CC Catherine (PS-Come on over to my place to see the Shopping Spree I also had in Dahlonega this week)

What beautiful things they had! I can see how you couldn't resist the tea set.

I would have left with the blue tray and of course the milk glass. Thanks for sharing your shopping trip with us. I need to head to ours soon, I haven't been in quite a while and I know what you mean about having withdrawals.

Do you still fly? My husband was flying about that same time. It looks like you had a great day at the flea market. Did you take anything home?
I did a Goodwill run today and found some bird things.

***Now we can add PILOT to your already-impressive list of "can dos"? Wow! You never cease to amaze me, SS!!!~~~ What if Chip & GF have a daughter? That tea set would have been soooo darling (OK, am sure you'll be able to find MORE by that time!).~~~ The tea cups look alot like Belleek & of course, being married to "an Irishman", I adore them!~~~ What amazed me was that you DIDN'T buy the cloche! I've never seen one quite like that... sooooo much "personality"!~~~ (Wish we HAD places like THAT around here but alas, if they're HERE, I don't know WHERE!). This was such fun AND informative~~~ enjoyed it mucho! Many thanks, kiddo! XO, Linda

Susan,
You look so pretty standing next to the plane & so young! It's funny how we think we're so grown up till we look back at pictures & realize how young we were. Loved the certificate kicking "you" out of the nest... Maybe that's why you love birds???

I loved the Flea visit. You know I have this thing about birdcages & would have wanted that one & the bunny. Great post! ♥ Diane

It is sooooooooo good that I don't live near you. I can just see myself spending far too much time in the Classy Flea! That cloche would have come home w/ me. Like what you bought too. Also liked the grayish shelf in the background of one of your photos. Would have to paint it though - not liking the color. Let's go again soon!

You noticed that I said "chicks"...Girl, I just realized that I'm stuck in a time-warp...I still wear bell bottom jeans and have long hair that's parted down the middle (Oooh...I'm hearing that little music diddy from the Twilight Zone in my head right now...eeeks...that just dated me back to the 70's too!!! Hehe!!!

Well my friend, I do love shopping with you at the Classy Flea on Fridays...you always find some of the prettiest things!!! Hmmm...if only I were closer! Thanks for taking me along...

Wow, you're a pilot, how neat! I can't believe you got away with your shirt - my husband has shadow boxed a whole lot of shirt pieces and certificates for people at our small local airport! And what a great shopping trip, I love those shamrock teacups, what a find. And those damask chairs - have absolutely nowhere to put them, but I'm afraid at that price they would have come home with me anyway lol. Kathy

'Love the photo of you with your plane too'.

Excellent show n tell. Mine's posted, I do hope you can stop by and visit with me sometime today. Happy Friday.

Susan, I get distracted too easily. This has nothing much to do with the Flea but is somewhat related to the flying story. I from Warner Robins and I couldn't help but noticing that you were flying in Macon.

Loved the bell-bottoms! Happy Day!!!

What a wonderful post! I love the picture of you beside the plane! I also had bell bottoms and long straight hair parted down the middle in the 70's! What a great experience to have flown that plane!
What a great flea market! That dresser looks very similar to one in my foyer. And I would have had to get the shamrock tea things also! I have one shamrock tea cup and a mini tea set for St. Pat's Day. I think I would also have taken home that blue tray.... Thanks for sharing! :D Jewel

This flea market has some great stuff! I haven't been to one in over a year and this post makes me want to go right now. After extensive clutter clearing, deep down to the core of my being getting rid of "stuff" last year when I redecorated our house, I swore off flea markets and swore I would never, never, ever bring "stuff", or as my husband calls it "my treasures", back into this house. I think it's time to venture out to the flea markets and just be a lot more particular about what I actually bring home.

At Friday, January 30, 2009 , Blogger Constance said...

Okay, I probably would've bought the dresser! I could've covered the crack with a one of my pieces of dishware that could hold my jewelry or something. WOW! I would have loved to come across a bargain like that!

Thanks for sharing your pilots story with us. My stepdad, soon to be 79 still flies! He flew my Mom and himself to Texas in Nov for our youngest daughter's wedding. he used to be active in the "Young Eagles" program until about 8 years ago. He has a YANKEE 2 seater that they dubbed TWA- "Teeny Weeny Airlines".

I love the photo of the 152 and you. I soloed in one of those too. And never actually got my license, but it sure was fun. My husband is the real pilot and we used to fly our airplane to Mexico all the time before the kids came along.
I would love to visit the Classy Flea, but being it's in Georgia and I'm in California, I don't see that happening anytime soon. Thanks for sharing,

Love the tour of the Classy Flea and I love the tea cups. I collect teapots and since I first read your blog I now have gone up to have a look around myself a few times. I live by the OK Cafe so I take 75N and am up there in a jiffy. It sure would be so much fun to have all the gals who read your blog who live in the area meet up and have tea at the Swan House. I do not have a blog but I would help organize it if you post the idea and anyone is interested.

He now currently owns a small airport in Virginia~ fly on down there, and tell him I sent you! :)

Have you ever visit the flea emporium in Woodstock? It's not as good as this one, but every once and a while you can find a good deal.

It's a good thing this store is in another state far from me because I'd visit it often! Their merchandise seems very reasonabley priced and in immaculate condition. That $75 chair could be recovered with proably a little over a yard of material. That is a very pretty dresser, even if the marble top was cracked. I love those shamrock cups/saucers? Didn't I see you do a tablescape one time with these same cups/saucers so you added to your set? Maybe it was for St. Patty's Day. Your blog is the one of the first I look at each morning hoping for something new. It sure brightens my day! Thanks for all your sharing and creativity.
