Decorating for Valentine's Day: Welcome to the 160th Metamorphosis Monday!

Valentine's Day is tomorrow.  I love that holiday.  How can you not love a day that's all about chocolate, romance and  LOVE!

It makes me smile when I remember bringing Valentine's Day cards to school.   If I close my eyes, I can still see all the colorful construction-paper folders we made and decorated.  They were strung along the wall where they patiently waited to be filled with sweet valentines.

When February 14th arrived, the classroom became a little bee's nest as we scurried around carefully placing the tiny envelopes in the correct folders.  Do you remember the night before, reading the valentines and carefully choosing just the right valentine card for each friend, especially if that friend was your classroom crush?

Oh, the excitement of opening the valentines the next day!  I always wondered what those little envelopes would hold.  Would it be candy, a message from a "secret admirer" or just a friendly valentine?  Maybe it was all those Nancy Drew books I was reading.  Whatever it was, I loved and still love the mystery and intrigue of this special day.

This Valentine's Day, my crush is you.  Will you be my Valentine?  ♥  Check: Yes √ or  No √.  ;)

The guest bedroom received a little Valentine's Day decorating.

I fell in love with this cute garland from Pier 1.  It's made from a very heavy, felt type material.  At first I thought I'd just make my own...until I realized it was only $6.  I don't think I could make it for that.

A pretty pink ribbon held the garland in place.

Even the daffodils were excited about Valentine's Day this year, blooming a whole month early so they could lend their sweet scent to this special day.

In case you're wondering why there's a butter dish (complete with a knife no less) there on the secretary, it will make sense in THIS post.  There really is method to my madness...well, most of the time.

I was hoping you might be stopping by so I have a little Valentine's Day treat ready.   Love this heart shaped napkin fold.  I'll create a tutorial for it soon...it super easy to make.

I hope all your Valentine's Day wishes come true...and then some.

You'll find  additional Valentine's Day craft, decorating and table setting ideas under the "Holiday" category at the top of this page.

 Happy Valentine's Day! ♥

  10. Checking off the yes box - you're the bee's knees! I do remember the V-day card passed to me in grade school. Woodstock typing on Snoopy's house said "You're my Type"! Wow - anyone would be thrilled to be a guest in your house on V-day - your guest room is so fun. Excited to share my kitchen tour with you today too.

  16. The heart garland is so sweet Susan! Love daffodils- my hubby's grandmother used to grow all kinds - before they sold their home in Calif to go into a retirement center I went and helped packed them up and was sure to dig up some bulbs and other plants in the yard. They have moved 3 times with me and I always love seeing them peek through the ground reminding me Spring is near. They are still sleeping here in Colorado.

    1. Mary Ellen, I used to have more types blooming but each year some of the yellow ones seem to be disappearing and are replaced by the lighter colored ones. I love them all though. Love how many types there are. Maybe this next fall I should get out there and plant some new varieties. Love that you continue to carry yours with you. Your hubby's grandmother would be so touched to know that. :)

  29. Susan, I love your entire house. Your guest bedroom is beautiful and the small Valentine touches are lovely. In this "decorating" era of muted color it is refreshing to see that someone else still decorates with color. I like the suttle tones, however, I could never be with out my blues, reds, yellows, etc. Your daffs add just the right touch to the room. I've read that overcrowding of bulbs can cause reduced blooming. Possibly that is causing yours to not bloom as much as they used to. Up here in SE Va we had a light snow Sat night...I hope my daffs will "spring" back and continue to remind me that warmer weather is not far off. Thank you for your enchanting blog and your pictures that always brighten my day. Vikki in Va.

  39. What a beautiful room, I'd love to be a guest. That garland is darling.
I so remember giving and getting the Valentine's and then doing them with my own kids, sadly they are trying to take this holiday away, what harm it does I can't imagine, if people vote this man in again we won't recognize this country.

Happy Valentine's Day to you, love your blog !!!

  42. I love this room especially with the Valentine's decorations. I never would have thought to use the armoire like you have in this room in a bedroom. But it works. I have beautiful handpainted piece that I was going to give away; now maybe I can think of a "different" location for it. Big fan of white wicker and surprised how the ecletic look works here. I have a "thing" for round tables with pretty tablecloths like you have in this room. Sometimes they become another place to leave clutter! I've eliminated a few but still love the look. Wish I had more rooms to decorate and more time to do it! This room makes me just want to hop over and share a latte!!
