A Most Unusual Home
Recently, my friend, Gloria, alerted me to a another very creative individual.  It seems a rather unique home has come on the market. You know I'm always talking about how I'd love to live in a fairytale house?  Well, this home takes that idea to a whole new level!

If you have young children, or if you're just a big kid at heart, you may have seen the Pixar animated movie, "Up" when it was released a couple of years back.

The movie was a big success, receiving lots of favorable reviews.   As you can see in this image from the movie below, the house in this movie was absolutely adorable.  It was colorful, homey and magical, capable of flying through the air via balloon power like a house-shaped "hot air balloon" of sorts.

The cute house in "Up" caught the eye of a a home builder, Bangerter Homes, in Herriman, Utah.  With the permission of Disney, they scaled out a floor plan for the house and built their own "Up" house!  Isn't it wonderful?!

This house is listed for $400,000.  Each weekend, Bangerter Homes attaches a gazillion balloons to the top of the house to replicate the look seen in the movie.  Wow!

I love the weather vane, fish-scale siding, dormer window and all the sharp peaks/angels of the roof line.  The white picket fence and gate are so, so cute!

Bangerter Homes went to great pains to create every single whimsical detail as it appeared in the movie.

Even down to the mail box...

...and the hose reel out front.

The same painstaking detail is visible inside, as well.  This replica home is 2,800 square feet in size and has four bedrooms.  You can watch a video of an interview with the builder HERE.

If you saw the movie, you may remember the the mural Ellie paints in the nursery.

Here's how it looks in the Herriman home.

In the movie there's a painting over the fireplace of a fictional waterfall called, Paradise Falls.

Here's how it looks in the real home in Herriman, Utah.  Notice the detailing on the fireplace.  The builder thought whoever buys the house will most likely be a movie buff, so the basement includes a home theater.

Since only a few rooms are actually shown in the movie, the builder had to use his imagination to create the rest of the rooms in the home.  The rooms visible in the movie have been duplicated as accurately as possible.

National Geographic Channel:
The Up house has really captured the hearts of many, including the folks at the National Geographic Channel.  They recently filmed a show for a new series that is set to air in the fall called, "How Hard Can It Be."

In the movie, Up, the home is set aloft by balloons.  The National Geographic team decided, what the heck...let's build a house and do the same thing with it!

Houston, we have lift-off!  And there were real people inside! :)

From planning, building and rigging, it took a team of scientists, engineers and balloon pilots two weeks to recreate their version of the Up house.  You can read more and watch a video of this feat HERE.

I love, love, love that we are ALL still really just kids inside.   Sometimes the kid in us gets buried under the hectic stress of everyday life.  But, deep down, he/she is still there, kicking and screaming to get out!
As you go through your day today, go ahead and let the kid in you come "outside to play."  Just for a few minutes.  :)
