Awesome New Feature for Bloggers

Warning: What lies ahead is short on pictures, but it's good stuff that you will want to know...trust me on this! :-)

Bloggers...you're gonna love this! Readers who don't blog...you will probably like this new feature, too!
I have some great news to share! (Hyperventilating!) You may have already noticed it, but I just found it yesterday! You know those neat little headings that you sometimes see on "professional" websites...the ones that say, "Home" or "About" or "Contact?" Well, if you are using a Blogger template, you can have those nifty little labels just underneath your header pic, too! (If you are not using a Blogger template, you can still add them, but it involves changing the html code for the template...Yikes!)

If you aren't sure what I'm talking about, glance up to the area just under my header pic...do you see them? Do you see the neat little headers? Is anyone else as excited about these as I am? I love anything that makes BNOTP more functional and user friendly for my readers. Ok, Bloggers, here's the skinny:

Go to "Posting," then click on the tab, "Edit Pages" and create all the headings or pages you will want to show...like "Home" or "Contact."

Then go to "Layout," Click on "Add a Gadget" and select the "Pages" Gadget to add to your blog. You should see all your pages listed...just drag them to arrange them in the order you like. At first, all my headings appeared in my sidebar, but I just drug the "Pages Gadget" to the area just underneath the header pic and ta-da...it was right where I wanted it! Then I did a happy dance! Then I did another happy dance! :-)

I've tried over and over to alter my html code to add those elusive little headers and had never been able to get it to work. I could just give those ole Google Blogger techy people a big ole smooch! Yipee!

Oh, btw, when I created my headers, I think I actually did it backwards. I added the Pages Gadget first and then created the Pages...but it still worked. I'm still tweaking the info I placed under my headings...sorting through it to make it more user friendly...but I'm loving this new feature!

If you get a comment from an "Anonymous" commenter and it sounds like a generic, computer generated comment that would apply to any post out there, I frankly would not post it if I were you. Why? Don't know why, but I just don't trust them".

Funny... I just discussed this with my daughter last night. I told her about the same thing... I think it's a way for them to find and comment at a later date! Something has to be up with it! It just doesn't make sense!
The gadget (buttons) under header, I found that last week, cool, huh?

A few of my followers have turned out to have porn sites, so I always check any new follower to make sure they are legitimate.

I didn't want to restrict who can comment because, I would like friends and family to comment even if they don't have a blog. I have noticed that the comments are on old posts, so I have set the posts on moderate if it over 30 days old. This eliminates 90% of the spam.

I researched and re read for two months everything I could find on adding the tabs to blogger for a new blog that I have been setting up for a friend. I just could not make it work. Then one night while I should have been sleeping it hit me, in 20 minutes I had it done and was doing a victory dance ..
A few days later Blogger adds it as a gadget/widget . ..lol

I "moderate" all comments so they don't get on. Oh, not with captcha but just simple "moderation." And yes, I've seen the new pages under the "new posts" and such but just haven't thought what I could post that would be of any interest to anyone.

I understand about those one liner comments....they may be Trolls.I did not know anything about them until I got one on my old blog. They start off friendly and then they become bullies. If you don't agree with them they start spreading lies to all your followers about you and ruining an intire community.

When someone opens one, it gets into their computer and does password trolling. When he checked them on mine in particular, he found 24 viruses after opening only 3 of them.

(We knew this could happen, so he backed up everything before he began and then took everything off my hard drive.)

It froze up my computer to the point where we couldn't even get it to turn off so we had to wait for the battery to die.

Anyhoo, they do sound generic enough, and if you come across them do NOT click on them. Some are bold enough to include a link they expect you'll click on. Definitely do not click on those because theyre the ones that have the viruses.

Also, they do not always use anonymous. Some actually have names, and those seem to be the ones that have the links.

Last thing, my tech guy also said that these are getting more common on blogs, and that the anon commenters may start with an innocent sounding post, but that's so they can save your blog to use for later. If you're getting innocent ones now, you'll be getting the linked ones later.

My tech guy said that we should write in our comment greeting box something to the effect of a warning so that our true commenters don't get duped.

I've been getting tons of spam the past few months. I'd already had to switch to moderated comments due to anonymous snarky comments.
