Three or More Tuesday...

It's time for Three or More Tuesday over at The Gypsy's Corner. If you've never visited Tam's blog, you will definitely want to stop by to see her gorgeous gardens, lovely vignettes and wonderful tablescapes.

I've been eyeing that empty spot above the china cabinet in my dining room for some time now. At Christmas time it's often filled with greenery from the yard...like magnolia leaves and nandina berries. But the rest of the year, it's pretty empty up there.

So recently I decided to put my small collection of white pitchers there to see how they looked. I think I like it. :-) I really like the contrast of the white against the red wall in this room. I found all of these pitchers for very reasonable prices at Marshalls, HomeGoods and Michaels. The rooster pitcher was $10 and the others ranged between $6 to $8...so all total I spent around $38 to decorate this area.

I'm seriously thinking of adding an iron decorative piece on the wall behind them. I don't want to take away from the contrast of the white pitchers against the red wall...but it just looks like it needs a little something else.

Don't think I want any greenery because that might obscure the pitchers...unless, I raise them up a bit and then add the greenery. Ummmm, what would you suggest? :-) This room is painted white below the chair rail...wish I'd thought to take a pic showing that part. :-) If you scan down just a little, you will see pics of this room in yesterday's Metamorphosis Monday post. Thanks for your suggestions!

Susan! I love your pitchers!!! I have the second one in your group of five. (I got it from Home Goods in NJ.) Home Goods here in NJ didn't have a big selection. (Boo Hoo!) Looks like you hit the Jackpot! :)

Check out my post from today. I found Goodwill's online auction! It's awesome! They have some GREAT items! Check it out!

I think the contrast is perfect the way it is. Adding something may take the thunder away from that delightful rooster...he might not like that. ;)

One of my largest collections is white or cream colored pitchers! I love them and am drawn to them like a bees to honey. I would like a little vine of ivy woven between them of a sprig of greenery with berries tucked in between a few??? To me, greenery always softens the edges of anything and it would also tie in with the greenery in your dishes in the cabinet. My home office/study is almost done! I ended up not doing red afterall but rather a lovely green. I'll send you pictures when I'm done.

The pitchers look great as is! I have a collection on a shelf in the kitchen and love them everytime I walk in. The Rooster is great, I haven't seen him around here, but Target has a great white picther with simple lines...just not as great as the rooster he is a great focal point!

I too, like the simplicity of the white against the red, but I know if you add anything at all you will make it look beautiful, the same way you make everything you touch look beautiful.

I like them as is -- in the fall you could put some bittersweet or leaves in them; at Christmas greens. But the rest of the year they are perfect as is!

I often tend to "overgild" the lily -- sometimes simplicity or purity is better.

I too like the white pitchers against the red wall. Looks great just like that. You have some interesting ones there. I have only one white pitcher. But with my white walls, it would not stand out very much. I guess I need more color.

Now, you should know that this Muse loves layers ! LOL :)
I agree that the white simply pops against that wall color...which gives your eye a place to play! A header piece would be perfect...
iron or other...

But is certainly not shy as is!

I totally agree with your greenery sentiments, Ms Susan...and you certainly do not want to detract from this wonderful opportunity!

I applaud you for your thrifty finds!~Sure makes life a thrill does it not? :)

The rooster pitcher is so great! I think it looks great just as you have it. Maybe you could find a black wood box or pedestal to elevate the rooster pitcher? ( If you wanted to play around with it.)

Well I am new to your blog and I agree that the pitchers look very nice on top of the hutch but I also think they need something to "ground" them up there. What about a vinyl decal word behind the pitchers - big enough that it could be read but yet not so big that it overwhelms the pitches - just adds a little back ground and balance to the vignette. You do a word like Drink or Dine or even something like Gather or Family. Etsy has a great selection of Vinyl decal - just do a search for - well Vinyl Decals (LOL). Good Luck and I'll be anxious to see what you decide to do.
Great blog!

Susan,

The white pitchers look great against the red walls. I too have a red dining room with a crystal chandelier and I love in the evening how the red walls bounce off the prisms of the chandelier.

I like your idea of an iron piece behind the pitchers.

BTW, I was in Atlanta last week and visited one of my favorite shopping spots, Boxwood. Do you frequent their shop? I always come away with some wonderful "finds". This time I found some beautiful tall wine etched stemware and some silver acorn napkin rings.

Thank you for visiting my blog.

I'm relatively new to your blog, but I check in daily. You have a wonderful sense of style and your porch is to-die-for! Thank you for sharing your talents. I noticed the dishes in the cabinet have cardinals on them. They look like winter or Christmas dishes. Cardinals are my favorite bird and I would love to find some dishes like that. Do you know who makes/made them? I don't have a blog of my own, but again I enjoy reading yours each day.

Blessings,

Oh, in my excitement over your dishes {=0}, I forgot to comment on the top of your cabinet. I love it like it is, but you obviously have something special when it comes to decorating, so if you decide to add something else to it, I'm sure it will be just as gorgeous.

Susan, they look fantastic. And, I agree with your idea of a background piece. Be sure to let us know what you decide.

Good morning!

Like everyone else-- I think the stand alone white pops from the Red background. Another layer with a metal simple "swirl" would pull it into the "rule of 3"

But i quite like the simplicity too.

I think the iron piece is a good idea or possibly not having them all lined up like that, maybe something to give it a bit more height. Fewer pitchers, angle or height change of the pitchers.

your blog is wonderful and your decorating is incredible!!

no greenery! the white pops against the red - which makes it more striking and beautiful. the green would deflate both. Leave it as is and I think you will get more notices. It's so beautiful !!!!!! don't mess with perfection!!!!!!!!

I love collections of all the same. Especially stone ware. Since you asked and me being me :-) have never been one to shy away from a question, my immediate thought when I saw your space was " how fantastic would a large pewter colonial platter look behind those pitchers?". SO there you have it.
