Got a room in your home that needs a makeover but the budget is a bit tight? Think paint. A gallon of paint and a few hours this weekend listening to your favorite tunes with paint brush in hand...you'll have a whole new space that feels a lot more like you.
So, what's standing between you and the room of your dreams? If you're like most folks (me included) it could be that perplexing, anxiety-producing exercise known as "choosing the right paint color." You stand before that big wall in the paint store that's filled with a gazillion little-bitty paint chips and your first thought is, "Maybe I'll just clean out my sock drawer this weekend, instead." Yup, been there.
Fear no more. The good folks at Glidden know exactly how you feel. They want to take the anxiety out of choosing that perfect paint color so they've created a special site, My Colortopia, that's made for folks like us—you know, the ones who break out in a sweat at just the thought of picking a out a color for the dining room or that old hutch we snagged at the thrift store last week.
The very first thing you'll notice when you stop by My Colortopia is lots of gorgeous, vibrant color. Your eyes dilate and you're instantly in a better mood! Ahhhh, beautiful color!
Yes, I do have spring fever, why do you ask? ;)
My Colortopia exists to help with your color and painting dilemmas. Along the top of the page you'll find lots of helpful links, including an "Advice" section where you can ask questions. There's also a link to the Colortopia Blog where you'll find great articles and tips on topics ranging from, "Tackling an Unfinished Room"...
...to "Creating a Painting Plan for the New Year."
Home Page:
Back at the home page, scroll down to around the middle of the page, and you'll see a nifty little gadget called, My Life, My Colors. I've also included it here in this post below!
This fun gadget displays a personality/style quiz that quickly narrows down the colors best suited to your personality and design style based on your answer to 7 fun questions. Neat, huh?
The quiz only takes a couple of minutes and as you answer each question, you'll literally see your color choices developing right before your eyes. Pretty cool to watch it in action!
Your Turn!
I've embedded this clever tool here below so you can try it out now! After you answer the 7 questions, leave a comment letting me know what your color choices were in the end. Did you like the suggestions? I took the quiz 2-3 times since I was torn between some of my answers and I wanted to see what the paint choices would be if I had answered in a different way. What did it come up with for you?
Have fun!
I have been sponsored by Glidden brand paint to write this post but the thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

What a great post!! I bet 90% of your readers have the color quandary. I know that in the world of quilters, the number one complaint is not being sure of what colors to work with. I haven't taken the quiz yet because I want to concentrate on it, but I think I'll context it as a quilt, as well and see how it works. Update to follow. Great job!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your update. Fun idea about using it in the context of working with quilts!
DeleteWow! What a great site! We just painted our din rm after months of quandary and probably 100 color chips. It's a hard decision to make. The site is easy and fun to use. Thanks so much for pointing us to a tool that we can use Susan!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Sherry
Sherry, glad you enjoyed it. I spent a good bit of time there reading all the articles...lots of good info!
DeleteThanks Susan, what a great color tool. I am guilty of bringing home color swatches and leaving them taped to the wall for months. (Even when I am just matching the color that is there, because the builder screwed up the paint kit he left). Thanks for all your great informative posts.
ReplyDeleteCarolyn, I've been known to do that, too! It can be hard to match to existing paint, especially if it's been up a little while. I don't know if it's my imagination, but it seems to darken a tad with the passage of time. Probably just my imagination. :)
DeleteGood morning my dear friend..Now girl I will try this as I am not afraid of color just choosing the right one to use..I'm on my thrid choice for my bathroom..Hope you have the best weekend ever my sweet friend..Hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
ReplyDeleteOh, Gloria...I hope this helps! Thanks! Same to you sweet friend!
DeleteI took the test and it came up with the similars colors that I have decorated my home with - purple and olive green. There is nothing like new paint to change your mood. I have used aubergine walls in my dining room with olive raw silk curtains. I loved the deep purple color so much I moved it into my living room, and it makes a great backdrop for my artwork collection. Thanks, Susan. Laurel
ReplyDeleteLaurel, that sounds like such a beautiful color combination...olive green with deep purple. I love those colors, too...wear them sometimes in my clothing. Sounds rich and soothing at the same time.
DeleteI love Colortopia. I have gleaned an abundance of good information from the site and their contributors. I have taken the quiz a few different times and I usually come up with a yellowy palette which is strange because I don't like the color yellow. I never use it and have never used it in my home or even in my apparel so I don't know that the quiz helped me any in finding my perfect color scheme. Also, the answers to the questions are too limited. There are some that are no brainers but there are others that my answer is not any of the choices they offer or even close to what I would choose, so how can a good assessment be made there? Anyway, just a thought
ReplyDeleteThanks Sheila for sharing this. I struggled between choices on a couple of the questions, so I took it twice! :) I love yellow. Don't have it in my decor a lot but do have it on my walls. I really liked the articles, too!
DeleteHey that was fun.
ReplyDeleteI like neutrals throughout, so my color pallette preference was no surprise, but I love quizzes!
Have a wonderful weekend, Susan!
What a fun quiz. Some colors were right on, and few I was surprised because I don't think I have ever selected them, but they were pretty. I took the quiz a couple of times in order to fit my answers since like you and others I was torn between a couple of the choices. Two colors stayed consistent so I think I should paint with those colors! They were both in the blue violet family.
ReplyDeleteI usually use Benjamin Moore paints, but have used Glidden a few times. I just forget about it since it doesn't get promoted where I live. I can safely say it goes on and covers WAY better than Behr paints.
I love quizzes, so this was great Susan!
I like them, too...love seeing what they "tell me." Glad you had fun with it, Mary!
DeleteLove this quiz. It was no surprise to find my colors being Spring leaf and Safari Green and a shade of dark purple! WOW! With living with a man that likes WHITE WALLS everywhere this is challenging. I finally got him to agree to paint the kitchen and our bedroom a different color last year after being married for nearly 35 years! Ha! Thanks for sharing this post. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteI have soooo been wanting to do my dining room in pink. I took a similar test from the Better Homes and Gardens website earlier this week and guess what.......I got PINK! So I thought....well I'll try this test and cement my decision. AND GUESS WHAT......I GOT PINK!!! So my dining room will soon be a beautiful, pale shade of pink! Thanks for helping me make my decision!
ReplyDeleteThat is too funny...pink both times! I bet you'll love it!
DeleteThat was pretty cool! Very close to the same colors I've been mulling over for a new "do" for my upstairs loft. Early Morning Sun, Robin's Egg, and Marshmellow White.
ReplyDeleteOh, those colors sound wonderful! You can't go wrong with color names like that!
DeleteDear Susan, This was a lot of fun. No matter how I changed my personality I always ended up with a lavender shade. Will have to remember that shade. Saladino pulls it off beautifully, why not me.
ReplyDeletelol Love that thinking!
DeleteIt was right on target for me... all soft lavenders and pinks. Perfect for the lady who lives on Lavender Hill !
ReplyDeletethanks for the fun,
gena
So much fun! I always end up with the soft colors that I like, although I like yellow and it didn't show, but our home now is peral white. Pretty good! Thank you dear Susan, have a terrific weekend.
ReplyDeleteFABBY
Thanks, Fabby! Hope you have a great weekend, too!
DeleteDid the test twice and got virtually all the same colors. Oddly, they were not colors that I like at all. I must not know myself as well as I think I do...lol!
ReplyDeleteLove this post. I'm excited about taking the quiz. I know its going to be an eye opener for me.
ReplyDeleteNann
This quiz hit me spot on!
ReplyDeleteFun, and the quiz was very accurate. I love visiting your wonderful blog.
