For months now I've been hoping to squeeze an Expedit into that closet for storage, but the unit itself is only about 1/2 inch (if that much) smaller in width than the closet itself. It's such a tight fit, I'll have to remove the baseboards to get it in there.
Prior to heading to IKEA, I created a fake shelf out of foam board to represent the width of the Expedit and attempted fitting it into the closet.
It appears the closet just isn't deep enough for the Expedit to make the turn in the closet to fit against the back wall. For some reason my brain refuses to accept that answer. Stubborn, I know. I keep trying to think of a way to make it work. And, in case you're wondering, there's not enough space inside the closet to build the unit inside it.
Logic finally ruled and I sadly left without the Expedit, but not before consoling myself with one of IKEA's big honking cinnamon rolls. Those things are insanely good, especially when they're hot from the oven...and this one was. Have you ever had one of these bad boys? Makes my mouth water just thinking about 'em again.

The rest of my weekend was spent cleaning out the guest room closet and moving about 20 picture albums from that closet to a larger closet. It's nothing worth showing here on the blog...just practical, boring stuff that needed to be done.
A Camera Switcheroo:
I did make one significant change/metamorphosis of sorts this weekend. Shortly after purchasing a Nikon D5100 camera, I attended some free photography classes offered by the store where I bought my camera. During one of the classes I had an opportunity to see a Nikon D7000 for the first time. Over the next few weeks as I made the change from shooting in "auto" to shooting pretty much exclusively in manual, I realized the D7000 would better meet my needs. There are many reasons why I like the D7000 better, but one big reason is having easy access to many of the settings on the outside of the camera without going through the menu. Now that I'm shooting so much in manual, that has become more important.
Unfortunately, the stores have been completely sold out so I couldn't make the exchange until this weekend. They only received two in on Saturday, but I was able to snag one before they disappeared again for gosh knows how long. As promised, they were kind enough to let me exchange my D5100 when the D7000 arrived. It's a bad time to be shopping for cameras and lenses right now. So many stores are out of product due to the earthquake in Japan and floods in Thailand.
Image from official Nikon site
So I've been playing with the D7000 and so far I love it. I'm not ready to consider a full frame camera, yet, which would probably be the next step up. The FX format cameras are quite pricey, so I'll have to save my pennies for a long time before I can take that plunge, if I ever do decide to go that route. In the meantime, Mr. D7000 and I are hitting it off pretty well. If you would like to know more about the D7000, you'll find pictures and a breakdown of the camera HERE on Ken Rockwell's site.
So that was my crazy weekend. How did yours go? Get any projects checked off your "to do" list or did you spend it doing something fun?
Metamorphosis Monday:
For this Met Monday I'm sharing some lovely transformations from around Blogland.
Kate fell in love with Benjamin Moore's "Heritage Red" paint color and made this wonderful change to her front door. I love the red screened-in door and the floral arrangement! You can read all about how she did it, HERE.
With Picnik leaving us soon, Rhoda has written a great tutorial sharing all the changes you can make to your photos with Photoscape.
Abbie and her hubby Shaun built their house from the ground up while working and raising two young children. They share their inspiring story and how they kept their sanity during the process.
Kate is getting ready to start a complete bath renovation and you'll want to follow along. She's got some great ideas brewing.
Jennifer decorated her home for Valentine's Day and I love the little Valentine's Day card tree she made!
Bijana transformed this plain, white chair into the a sweet, romantic piece.
Here's a little hint at the makeover. Click the link above for the full reveal. It's adorable!
I love a great pantry makeover! Ashley completely redid her pantry and it will make you want to redo yours. The After pics are fabulous and this metamorphosis is totally doable without breaking the bank. Here's how it looked before she got started. You're going to love the "After."
Happy Met Monday! Looking forward to all the Before and Afters!

Welcome! Thanks for coming to the party!

With you new camera and everything I hope you are doing the Spring Ramble. Best.
ReplyDeleteTerry, I had planned to go until I realized it was Roswell. I've already taken the tour that includes the 3 homes: Barrington Hall, Bulloch Hall and Smith Plantation, so I decided to skip this one. Did you know members of the Roswell Photographic Society toured one of the old homes on Sunday (I think either Bulloch or Barrington) and they allowed them to take photos which isn't normally allowed. Unfortunately, I didn't make it to that and I'm still kicking myself that I didn't go.
DeleteThanks for the info about cameras, Susan. I keep thinking I need to change. Great features! Happy week!...hugs...Debbie
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for hosting!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that you were able to get the camera that you wanted! It has been really helpful for me to follow along with your camera choices since I am in desperate need of a new one. I am a Nikon girl myself and all of the new choices are so confusing. Please keep us posted how on how you like (or dislike) it!
ReplyDeleteI know, there are soooo many to choose from. Check out the D5100 along with the D7000. Hopefully production will be back to normal before too long. I'll definitely keep you posted. So far, I really like it.
DeleteCongrats on getting the new camera! Terrific features! Love the sweet Valentine's tree! Thanks for sharing and for hosting this party each week.
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting & thanks for the review of the Nikon camera. I'm in the market for a new one!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
Never had an Ikea cinnamon roll - but remember Cinnabon!! Next trip to Ikea, I don't think I'll be able to pass them by!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely going to be reading Rhoda's tips on photo editing (I will miss Picnik).
Kelly
Congrats on your camere upgrade :-) If I ever figure out how to use my Nikon D60 properly, I might upgrade to another model too.
ReplyDeleteGreat collection of projects - I'll be going to check them all out. I especially want to learn how to use Photoscape now that Picnik is going away.
I actually did get a DIY project done this weekend that I've been planning for a while - YAY! :-) And also made a painting for the Extreme Makeover: Kindness Edition project that I'm working on with seven other decorators.
Thanks for hosting, Susan! I'm sure you'll find something that will work for that closet. I can just imagine how you tried to get that 1/2 inch to work! I'd have been doing the same thing!
ReplyDeleteIf you could find someone to build you two simple bookcases that bolt together it would solve the "getting it in" problem. But you're so resourceful it will be interesting to see how you work it out. Jane
ReplyDeletelol I'm trying to go the inexpensive route...the Expedit is only $129! :) I may buy one and if it won't fit, use it in the garage....or maybe the laundry room.
DeleteThank you for hosting! Have a happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for highlighting my pantry Susan! I love that you posted the before picture instead of the after, lol.
ReplyDeletePS. You really make me want to ditch my cheapo point and shoot camera for a fancy one with all your photography tips. I would love to be able to take a decent picture with a window in it, they are always SO DARK. Maybe someday!
Ashley, you'll wonder how you lived without one once you take the plunge. Definitely will help with those bright windows. Great pantry redo!
DeleteI have been busy, Susan, I still am, you'll know why if you read my post. Good luck with your new camera. Thanks for posting these inspiring pictures....Christine
ReplyDeleteHi, Susan, hope you can figure out the storage situation - my friend had an Ikea bookcase (cubes) that needed to be made smaller with the coming addition of a second child - her husband cut two rows of cubes off the side and now it fits perfectly. Are you good with power tools? :) (I'm definitely not!) Today I posted about a problem I've been having with Blogger and Feedburner - apparently lots of people are having this situation where their blog updates don't show up on people's readers. Over the weekend my husband worked hours and was finally able to fix mine, so I've posted (and linked to your party) about how we did that. Hope it helps someone. Hugs ~ Mary
ReplyDeleteNow that's tempting...break out the power saw. lol I'll stop by and check it out! I know if your feed is too long, it won't post it...something like that. I shortened mine a while back. I think mine updates...hope it does. I'll check out your post.
DeleteSusan, you always have the best information! I really enjoy your ideas and thoughts on cameras, blogging and decorating. Your features are great too. Thank you for hosting another wonderful link party!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Betsy!
DeleteThank you for hosting the party.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the info on your camera.I am saving for a camera now.It is just not in my budget. But I do need to get one.My photos are horrible.Thank you for hosting.
ReplyDeleteMy friend and I have plans to hit Ikea this coming Saturday and I really try to stay away from those rolls..tho it never works! I decided to stay home this weekend and get something done around the house and it worked. I feel pretty good with all that I accomplished :D
ReplyDeleteI just love looking at everyone's projects - been looking forward to this all weekend!
ReplyDelete-Pamela, InspiredByFelicity.blogspot.com
I am having total camera envy! Mine is on the fritz so I'm starting to look at my options.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for hosting!
Kerry at HouseTalkN
Thanks for the party! What fun features. I LOVED reading the one about the house being built by the owners: how courageous! I'll need to check that link about the photo editting site. What a nice new camera you have...I'm dreaming of one!!! :) Happy week to you!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new camera - very nice!
ReplyDeleteI need to do something about a wire shelf that is about to collapse in a closet. Don't even want to think about it.
Thanks for hosting again this week. Nothing big to share, but I am in
Have a great week.
Thanks so much for hosting!!! I would love to know more about your new camera too- I have the Canon Rebel but know that I will need a better one at some point as well.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to get a new camnera! I'm still trying to figure out how to use mine!!!! LOL...Thanks for hosting the party...I'm off to check out all the projects now :o)
ReplyDelete~Des
Thanks for hosting Susan and good luck with the closet.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Linda
Have fun with your camera!! I am doing the same thing with mine right now. Aimee at It's Overflowing is doing an amazing how to series right now. Very step by step and easy to follow. It has been wonderful and I've learned tons.
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting!!
That's too bad about the Expedit not working...but at least you got to trade in your camera! I really need to take a photography course. I appreciate the tips you've shared along the way though. Thanks for the link up Susan! I love your blog!!!
ReplyDeleteYour photography skills far surpass most of us. I would not know where to begin with a camera like that.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting and thanks for the great features. I am going to check out the tutorial now.
Love that red door! And I'm so bummed about Picnik! I just discovered it and now it's going away. =(
ReplyDeleteJeanine
Thanks for hosting and I love your camera!
ReplyDeleteI learn so much from your blog and I come back to re-read so many of your posts. Thank you for exploring what is available (and not yet meeting with Picnik's collages etc) out in the world. Thank you for hosting.
ReplyDeleteJoy
Hi Susan! Thanks so much for featuring my little Valentine's tree. I've seen several of these trees throughout blogland (including your blog, I believe). That chair looks adorable, gonna have to check it out as I've got 2 plain, white chairs I've been looking to re-do. Bijana's makeover may just be the ticket. I'm anxious to hear how you like the new Nikon. I'm still trying to master my little ole Nikon D3000. Maybe one day I'll be ready for the big guns! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Susan, I know what it's like to really want a piece (the shelf unit for your office) but it just won't work so forget about it. I wonder if you have thought of creating your own space using modular units or storage cubes. I just googled it and there are some very inexpensive but good looking and useful options if you are willing to go this way. Years ago I put together 2 little units and used them to organize a closet. I don't know how to post a photo here but i'll try to put it on your Facebook page. It seems like a simple solution but may not be exactly what you want.
ReplyDeleteAnn, I may end up doing something like that. The Expedit would have almost looked built in, which was another thing I really liked about it. But alas, hate to spend the money to find it doesn't fit. Thanks for your suggestions!
DeleteCongratulations on getting your new camera! And for figuring out your closet's limitations before you bought and assembled the shelf ;-) Good luck finding a different solution for the closet!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jo!
DeleteI have been admiring from a distance but this is the first time I am linking up so thanks for having me and thanks for all the awesome inspiration. :) x
ReplyDeleteWe have so many expedit systems in our house, I love them. they dress up or down and are just so practical. Thanks for hosting, I hope you'll stop by to see what I did with my powder room when we had our third baby!
ReplyDeleteSusan, thanks for hosting such a fabulous party! Your blog is just awesome and I always love reading everything you have for us!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nancy! ♥
DeleteThank you for hosting such a great party! I'm a new follower and love all good information I find here! I've linked up
ReplyDeleteThanks, Beth! Welcome...glad you are here!
DeleteWell I hope my last comment looks like a normal person typed it, something happened & it got sent through before I was finished.
ReplyDeleteSusan you can get the expedit in a smaller version...only two across...maybe 2 of them would be easier to install than on big one. I have the one you want in my office and its awesome...good luck Cheers Frances
ReplyDeleteSusan, can't wait to hear more about the camera! I know photography is definitely my weak suit! Thanks for hosting! ~Lori
ReplyDeleteSusan I cannot THANKYOU enough for featuring Rhoda from Southern Hospitality and her tutorial about Photoscape. As you know I'm a new blogger and my husband downloaded Photoscape for me from the get go. I do OK with it but there is so much I don't know. Now thanks to the Tutorial I'm going to do things I've wanted to do that I didn't know how to do before. Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou. Your linky parties are just such a blessing to everyone. I'm so grateful that you do them. Thankyou from my heart!
ReplyDeleteNann
Aww, thanks so much, Nann! You are a sweetheart! I'm so glad Rhoda wrote the tutorial, too! Laurie at Bargain Hunting with Laurie also wrote a tutorial, so with both tutorials we should be able to figure Photoscape out. I'm looking forward to learning more about it, too. We'll all learn together! :)
Deletehi ya susan!
ReplyDeleteanother great blog post :)
hey give home depot or lowes a try for that kind of shelf unit
both carry a version of ikea's....might be worth a try :)
Ha ha, I thought I was the only stubborn one who clung to "my ideas" and tried to stick square pegs into round holes! I drive my analytical husband crazy...hope you figure out a satisfactory solution to your closet.
ReplyDeleteThose are all wonderful before and after's you've shown! You are going to be happy with your new D7000...you've made a good choice! I haven't tried manual mode yet on my new camera- I need to experiment with it. I used to know all the F settings for taking pictures. We ran an old 35MM Nikon F for years. I got lazy and went with point and shoot film cameras. Then I moved to digital, but I have to admit the digital point and shoots had their disadvantages and I ended up with an SLR as a result. I'm sure you will enjoy the D7000- Cherry Kay over at Entertaining Women got the same camera too!
ReplyDeleteKate paid you a great compliment with the red door. It is gorgeous. Now if I could only buy a Nikon like yours!
ReplyDeleteAlma
Alma, I was noticing they have refurbished ones on the B & H Camera site. Check Adorama, too. If I had seen the refurbished ones first, I may have bought one of those instead of going with a new one. You save a bundle buying refurbished and they are supposed to be refurbished by the Nikon factory. Often they are just demos that were used at shows or in the store.
DeleteSo many great links and ideas here Susan, thanks so much for the mention!
ReplyDeletexo
Kate
Thanks for the camera tip.
ReplyDeleteWell, maybe some day I'll get a "real" camera, and I'll know just where to turn for answers when the time comes. :) Thanks for hosting another great party!
ReplyDeleteHello! I love that shelving unit! I can see why it was a hard choice to not bring home with you. (The cinnamon rolls do look yummy though :o)
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time for me to join in. I think that our daughter did a great job with her spare room to nursery metamorphasis :o) so wanted to share it with you and your readers.
I can't wait til my next day off, so that I can visit more of the other links here. :o)
Blessings & Aloha!
Your new D7000 sounds exquisite... which highlights to me the need to not only get a better camera but actually learn how to take better pictures. Thanks for hosting such a great party.
ReplyDeleteLori
Susan..I got a D7000 for Christmas...Actually, a picture of it in a card as it was on back order...Received it about a month ago and have not had a chance to play with it...STILL IN THE BOX!..I am taking classes that Wolf/Ritz offers...So glad you like yours..that makes me really happy that I chose the right camera!...
